i wanted to get away over the holidays but i didn’t know where to go, i just knew i wanted to go somewhere i hadn’t been yet. it was also a super last minute plan (as usual) and i spent what was starting to seem like endless hours searching on airbnb and vrbo. a lot of places were already booked and none of the ones i had saved or favourited in the past were available. i asked jamie what he thought and got a grunt and shoulder shrug. i was getting tired of having to decide. i’m basically one of the most indecisive people i know, i can spend up to 30 minutes picking out a chocolate bar. so i asked aya to go through and pick, she’s decisive. i had already decided if she couldn’t choose we weren’t going anywhere! but as soon as she saw the cob house she said ‘that one. definitely that one’. and that was that. aya chose well, this was such a cool little handmade house, like a work of art. jamie and i have been to the majority of the gulf islands but we still hadn’t been to mayne island. and so it was decided (thanks to aya). ^^^aya made friends with the cows and named her favourite one sophia. ^^^she got to feed the chickens which made her vary happy. ^^^thanks for the eggs chickens! ^^^feeding the birds. ^^^charlie in the background trying to be like aya. luckily i caught him in time. ^^^a sliver from the chopped wood. ^^^daddy kisses made it better. ^^^aya loved carrying in chopped wood. it was my chore at her age, we had a huge wood stove growing up and i remember my dad constantly chopping wood. she said she wants to do it everyday, haha! ^^^this japanese style bathtub was ah-mazing! ^^^watching the cows eat down below. ^^^throwing hay at me. she said this barn was her favourite place in the world. it was fun watching her be so brave and jump from really high up and fall into a ninja tumble. as usual it felt so good to get our kids out of the city, they absolutely love farm life. and it feels like the tasks done on a farm require more thought or more being in the moment. clean water, clean air, it was a good little getaway.
